ARE YOU AN ARIES?

If we are true ourselves we will be accepting ancient wisdom through the words of classical sages. To be true sounds easy enough. To know ourselves though is always a challenge. It is here that Astrology offers assistance.

However it must be always that we allow that free will is the magical tool whereby we change and that any indication of astrological ingredients in our make-up, is made more plastic by the use of it.

Basically the psychological insights are threefold, namely your strong birth sign qualities that are perceived through the personality; then the deeper inner marriage of the sun influences and those of the moon – these represent your inner nature of the soul; and finally the spiritual purpose and quality of your present life or incarnation.

Remembering these factors we can describe the classic Aries person as being rash, impetuous, adventurous, quick tempered, impatient, forceful, direct, self confident, fearless, and vital.

Adding the deeper constructive qualities that motivate creative efforts and the capability to be engaged in fighting for right or just meeting the challenges of life that give you satisfaction . But care that you are not insensitive to others.

Then the spiritual influence which tends to mould you as heroic, a warrior, a defender of goodness,  an energetic protector of the weak, and a powerful active influence upon others – if you choose to develop this energy positively.

You will seem outwardly very self confident, but strong sense of ethics or faith brings you self doubt that you do not choose to share with others, but balances you, to remind you of humility. Your natural courage can be focussed physically in warfare, sport, or facing difficulties to achieve in your career or your goal seeking or perhaps upon the subtler aspects of life that require a different kind of courage. This can allow you to overcome pain, emotional disappointment, rejection in relationships, to keep dominant the more important issues and avoid the emotional eddies of passing consequence.

Whatever other factors in your chart you must feel confident that you have inherent qualities that make a hero or heroine but this must be first, that you become your own hero and use discrimination in fighting larger issues that you feel are worthy.

You are a thinker and a doer rather than an emotional person unless planetary energies influence you otherwise.

Perhaps you will find a few words ring true here and there. It is not advisable to anticipate more than this.  Your personal chart will modify or confirm your knowledge of the self to which you must befriend and remain true.

Moon in the Signs

The placement of the Moon in the skies at your birth time gives a significant indication of your emotional responses to life, to people and is a pointer to general health concerns. It has a direct bearing upon the brain and certainly is best known for its affect upon our emotions. According to the zodiacal sign in which it is placed and for the House where it is found in your personal Chart.  For example, in regard to our emotional tendencies  -

Moon in Aries sharpens the intellect but often makes impatience a problem when expressing emotions that are intense and never dull. It makes for an adventurous personality desiring excitement but also with courage to deal with larger issues and even to fight for them.

Moon in Taurus Sound judgement and reliability makes for a stable person regarding emotions with a strong need to be satisfied materially. Usually aesthetic sense is fine in acquiring things of beauty with an inherent appreciation of speech and a love of singing.

Moon in Gemini makes a very active person both mentally and emotionally, but often to disadvantage if restlessness without purpose strains the nervous system. Frequent changes of relationships and constant stimulation in one form or another is generally desired.

Moon in Cancer To have the Moon placed in this sign is very harmonious for expression of kind and strong emotions if kept disciplined and constructively channelled. It is the feeling side of life that is so important to this person who battles to become free of negative memories and emotional experiences.

Moon in Leo The emotional nature is securely seated in an attitude of generosity and magnanimity. Self confident and generous in love but must guard against insensitivity towards others that could be interpreted as over-egotistical.

Moon in Virgo affects the mind is a positive way by a desire for excellence and is allied to moral principles. A perfectionist never emotionally content until the details are all in place. The tendency for self criticism as well as towards others must be curbed.

Harmony is this person’s emotional need.

Moon in Scorpio The mind is incisive, keen, probing and capable of extraordinary intensity regarding scientific matters or in seeking success in any undertaking. However, personal emotions are inclined to be exaggerated and intense expression can cause difficulties in relationships with others.

Moon in Sagittarius This inclines the emotions towards disarming frankness of expression that may be perceived by others as either charmingly naive or bluntly rude.  The inherent desire for truth and honesty, even in adversity, keeps cheerfulness and constructive feelings dominant. Personal freedom is the person’s need as is physical activity and sporting challenge.

Moon in Pisces Possesses a sensitive faculty of intuition. Somewhat introvert and inclined towards quiet reflection and expression of the gentler emotions. Solitude is often the recourse for those with this placement of the Moon as the waters of the emotions are apt to be pulled in tides that influence both personal moods and over-reactions to others.

Understanding Yourself

To understand our personal nature is a natural motivation and an ever constant requirement if we are to be in control of our lives and fulfil our potential talents.

Astrology offers a simple process to help begin self understanding using symbolism related to the planets and the zodiacal signs to explain natural energies that impact upon our Earth from the heavenly bodies – Sun, Moon and planets. To these we inevitably must respond, even if unconsciously, as we react to weather patterns. Psychological responses are influenced by our individual character and our strongest established thoughts and feelings, but also issue from our core centre, our soul.

To begin to simplify the complex patterns of energy affecting human nature, astrology uses the ancient system of dividing our sky into 12 angles related to the constellations that reside in that part of the heavens, and which we call the zodiac.

Just as the Sun is important in considering the weather, so it is the first consideration in astrological influence. At the hour of your birth, the Sun was located in one of the zodiacal areas, where it remains for a month, from the 21st of one month to approx. 21st of the next month. At this time that must be accurately calculated by astronomers, the Sun passes into the next sign. For example, if born on the 22nd of May you would relate to the information about the sign Gemini, and another person born 18th May would belong to the previous sign which is Taurus.

The most basic starting point is for us to identify the major zodiacal sign that influences us. Anyone else in the world, born on the same day of the month will share that sign, known as your Sun Sign. The chart of 360° with its 12 divisions, allows 30° for each sign’s territory.

It is unusual to find a person who does not know their astrological birth sign. But it may not be clear to those who are born on 21st-22nd of any month, on what is called the ‘cusp’. The exact degree is required to determine which the dominant sign is truly, but as this requires an ephemeris or further astronomical data, it may be generally safe to assume that your nature will partake of the characteristics of a mixture of both of these signs. However at the outset, you will learn a lot about yourself by reading what is available about some of the inherent personality and character qualities commonly attributed to all in your Sun Sign.

These traits are always mentioned with the purpose of balancing the positive with the negative – the first to help you feel confident in your strengths and the latter to remind you of possible failings that must be overcome. From this simple exercise you will begin to realise how complex is your own nature and the patience that will be required to get to know yourself and your potential to live life positively, in harmony with the Spiritual Source of your life energies.

You will find it worthwhile.

THE MOON – Mother of our Earth Life

Most of us know very little about the Moon. Occasionally we are moved to gaze upon its brightness, or observe its form changing with the waxing and waning as a reminder of the light source in the heavens that dominates in the night skies.

Few of us are capable of exploring the controversial issues that concern astronomers about the origin of the Moon and its relationship to our planet. It would seem enough that we recognize its influence for good and that it is indispensible to life on earth, as we know it.

But from time immemorial humans have understood it to be the preserver of life and the nurturer – the Mother of all life on earth. It was accorded equal spiritual status as the Sun and revered as a Goddess, in contrast with the casual attitude so many people hold today.

We are to some extent aware of it influence in our practical lives. Some gardeners depend upon the phases of the moon to achieve best results with the germination of seed or with the health of their garden vegetables. Fishermen consider its importance in determining their catch. Some choose to consider the moon’s phases when fixing the dates of outdoor social occasions.

We are aware that animals respond to the moon that controls their mating seasons and we know that many pet dogs tend to get excited at times of the Full Moon.

It can affect humans too, and many are familiar with mood changes at different phases, and a certain mental stimulation and inner excitement at its full.  In mental hospitals, before drugs were used for the purpose, extra staff were allotted at Full Moon to help control patients who became violent and disorientated at this time.

The Moon asserts its power and influence over women and regulates their monthly menstruation cycle upon which new life depends. We know how it pulls the waters of the oceans and affects the tides and the movements of water as it draws up the sap in plants and the blood towards the brain in humans. The subtle power is unseen but we can best recognize its strength by the part it plays in nature and the environment when destructive rain downpour, flooding and tsunamis occur.

But to most of us the Moon is the symbol of the subtleties and romantic aspects of life and the focus of all ideal female qualities.  It can hold our interest as a magnet and intrigues us with its mystical, somewhat mysterious nature in spite of what astronomers are beginning to discover of its physical character. Whatever is our limited understanding of the influence of the Moon over natural life, we must prepare to discover through the traditional wisdom of Astrology how the Moon affects human nature and events.

Once the deeper, spiritual symbolism of the Moon is realized we are ready to look at the placement of the Moon in our Chart to learn the effects of its position in a particular zodiacal sign, in a particular House or section of the Chart, as well as its relationship with the Sun and planets.

The Moon reigns over the subtleties as the Sun rules the obvious. Being sensitive to both the electric energy of the solar power and the magnetic force of the lunar we all share the common task to harmonize these energies in our nature and in our lives.
