Human lifetimes rather readily encompass repeated actions, earnings, and lifetime financial figures that we can assess if we choose – whether it is getting out of bed, numbers of meals, sporting participation, hours of training or practice of crafts or skills and so on but usually everything, including our bank balance, involves hundreds, thousands, rarely millions and only occasionally could a miser be able to sit down and count his trillions!

The same lack of elasticity of imagination shows in us also, as very few of us can handle considerations of atoms, and nanoparticles as do the scientists involved in the microscopic worlds in their work.

Regarding the human populations in the countries of the world we have had to become more elastic however, to clearly perceive the relationship between the different groups in the well populated and in the sparsely inhabited areas, as we face the fact that the global population continues to increase worldwide.

However, grasping numbers and sizes in the third dimension is relatively easy compares with the more subtle aspects of distance, time and life energies of the cosmos where we have to move into another mental faculty in order to focus, and this is difficult.

How many enjoy the exercise in thinking of the number of grains of sand on all the beaches of the planet?

Or can cope with the knowledge that for thousands of years civilizations have come and gone without material evidence of their knowledge or existence?

Or that there are as many cells in the human brain as the stars in the heavens?

Or that a country can be billions of dollars in debt?

Or that there are minute worlds where man can manipulate atoms and that human science has had to develop miniscule instruments in order to do so?

But we must continue to exercise the faculties that permit us to understand even one iota of what human life is demonstrating to us as well as appreciating the natural miracles that exist without our intervention.

If we can move a little towards understanding some factors  that are within our range and reserve a sense of wonderment in areas we cannot grasp, we may gradually learn to cope with the recognized world that appears ‘real’ to us as well as the life that extends but in which we may feel we have no part.

Here are a few facts that may be of relevance or not to your interests and your ability to grasp their importance. These items have just recently appeared in our news reports in Australia -

Australian medical exports amounted to $4 billion in one year.

Earth has 8.7 million biological species – others claim up to 100 million.

On March 25, NASA’s Swift orbital telescope captured a surge of X-rays from deep space, disgorged by what was clearly an immensely powerful source – a “supermassive” black hole with a mass a million times that of our sun, but this is relatively small.  Other black holes exist with a mass of more than a billion suns!

And finally, who amongst us can sincerely relate to galaxies that are thousands of light years away?

Or what do we understand is a ‘light year’ that involves distance and time?

Compared with the expansion of consciousness needed for these exercises, our dear Earth and our daily life seem very cosy.

The study of our planet and our neighbouring ones in our own Solar System acquires a new attraction through a more comfortable demand upon our ability to comprehend the magnificent but immense spheres as well as the minute and miraculous.

Perhaps there are races so much more advanced than us in one way or another that we would get a different perspective, if we were to acknowledge this likelihood, or even make contact with those who are different from us.

Some people who have evolved on other planets in other densities than our own are bound to interest us in their technologies, their attitudes, their abilities and even in their mastery of the dimensions we only know as 4^th and 5^th dimension. There are some theorists who believe that there exist seven spheres or dimensions within the Cosmos. As we on earth are struggling to learn about the third and fourth we must be aware that we ourselves are at the beginner stage in our understanding of the universe and its layers of worlds beyond our own.

Contact or exploration to other planets is of great interest as is the future exploration beyond our solar system to the reaches beyond, not by mechanical means, but by our own direct experience.

It no longer is a question of whether life exists on other planets. We have come to terms with the fact that where nature has placed forms, there is life. What sort of life? This is what we are now generally questioning with science fiction imagination offering us some weird and wonderful suggestions as to variations of shapes of human beings. So not only density is a factor – as to whether other races are solid as our forms, or exist is subtler matter but we are preparing ourselves to learn one day of the truth and whether ‘teleporting’ and ‘telepathy’ and ‘space  travel’  and talents beyond television are indeed possible!

Many people all over the world attest to having had communication with humans who have come from space and are concerned about our welfare on Earth. Most of these visitors seem to give the same reminder that we should cease negative actions that affect both our physical environment and our mental world.

Many of these reports are regarded by others as subjective psychic or psychological experiences and judged to be curious but of little worth. This is because it is not known how extensive are investigations by serious explorers in psychic and psychological investigation in fields of the metaphysical.

So the matter of life in Space for the moment remains to a large extent a plaything of science fiction and public speculation.

These spheres beyond the visible are known to exist and are being experienced by many of us. The mundane world of matter is called by us the third dimensional world; the fourth dimension is by some presumed to be all life that is not visible, but in fact has its own limitations beyond which exist the fifth and sixth worlds about which there is much speculation and understandable uncertainty.

It is difficult to grasp the reality of worlds composed of different energies than those with which we are familiar and can be best approached by analogies such as those offered by our consideration of the natural elements. Water, for instance in its most material state being ice, begins to melt to become flowing water. This evaporates and forms first as visible steam under some conditions, before disappearing from our sight.  It falls as individual raindrops or in solid states as hail, or exudes in our breath as fine vapour or merges in streams to the great global oceans of our planet. Here we perceive water as a great wide blue wave-producing expanse very different from our earlier perception and concepts related to individual droplets.

Our earthly plane is obviously very much anchored and focussed upon matter. Our Earth people are naturally seen as materialistic with energy, desires and life values attached to material possessions and economic wealth.  These values in Western society have expanded to obliterate the more refined and nobler aspirations of the human soul and its endeavours to create a heavenly world.

Some who are often known as ‘physics’ have developed an awareness of life that is more related to the unseen emotions, invisible thought patterns, and the energies that are expressed by living forms, creatures and humans. They are able to stimulate a degree of public interest in the invisible worlds. Those who are disciplined and well motivated are sometimes trained and instructed by those more knowledgeable in the requirements that allow a sensitive and safe extension of the psyche into the far reaches of human consciousness and awareness. This requires the use of special and unusual faculties.

We also wish to increase our own sense of worth in our limited personal sphere where self confidence is important in the material world of action.

But it is not assertion of the self, but the capacity for self surrender and sacrifice that is important in the spiritual worlds of being.

How to satisfactorily marry these seemingly opposing inclinations is the task each of us faces.  It is not easy and has posed a problem for many a philosopher, past and present. It is made a little easier as we utilize the tools offered in astrology that indicate where balance is required for our well being.

We all live within the classroom of a more limited environment of our own solar system.

We are satisfied to study the Sun, Moon and Planets in our ‘community’ but must recognize that our planet Earth and our nearest celestial bodies are also growing and changes are already occurring, with many more immanent. We must keep ourselves flexible as students of life.

Commencing with our home base, our Earth is undergoing rapid and extreme changes that are affecting thousands, perhaps millions of people. For whatever causes we presume to consider are involved, the purpose is within the divine law of evolution even though we may not see how it will advance human and natural life by events that would appear to us as disasters.

We know that the Moon is also changing within its sphere in ways we have yet to understand.

The changes and events on the Sun however are captured in images that NASA and even amateur astronomers are presenting. What will be the outcome for our planet and the others within the domain of our Sun we do not know. Many negative speculations exist but we must be true to our Source of Light and Power by maintaining our focus upon its reflection in our true, sunny, spiritual centre.

We live to observe and accept life around us changing, including life in the heavens also.

It would be wise to keep an appropriate sense of humility that in fact we do not know the Divine Purpose. Our faith reminds us that changes, sometimes violent ones, are a part of the universal laws involving the threefold powerful energies of nature that function in their constant cycles of Creation, Preservation and Destruction.

But what is the influence the Earth has upon the other planets?

Our tardiness in posing this very important question points to our questionable readiness to relate to what we find living on other planets.  Locked in our limited self- interests, we are slow to imagine the possibility of a real inter-relationship with intelligences outside our little home planet.

In the past there have been suggestions about how mankind on Earth could ‘make use of the Moon’ with some proposing its suitable use as a dumping ground for nuclear waste – a suggestion that will make many of us blush nowadays, and hopefully shock others into entertaining a more intelligent concept and perhaps a more romantic one, of the gentle Moon with its protective maternal role in regard to the Earth.

The attitudes amongst us ‘earthlings’ have a considerable way to go if we are to develop the maturity of thoughts and ideas required in readiness for potential future explorations and contacts with life beyond our world.

Many who are vitally aware of the likelihood of there being intelligent life throughout the universe have been receptive to the messages of concern expressed by those who claim to be visiting us from other planets. Their concerns are about the extent of damage we have been responsible for in harming the earth itself and its microbic life and poisoning our waterways with toxic chemicals. We have yet to realise that we may have passed the point where it is possible to redeem the system Nature established so amazingly with what we term ‘organic’ and ‘renewable’ ecological systems.

It would seem that with our imagination is well exercised to consider what questions and interests visiting space people would ask of us and what, in particular, are the questions we would choose to ask them. Hopefully we would be able to demonstrate some degree of concern as to how our mistakes are affecting our sibling planets.

Earth planet has been called by some ‘the jewel planet’ being so beautiful and abundant in its natural life.  It has also been called ‘the planet of sorrows’ which is not as attractive and should make us realise that our influence generated on our Earth has possible negative effects on our neighbouring planets.

It will be up to us to change the situation if we are to better reflect the beauty and the wonders of this luxurious homeland.

At a time when we are observing planets in other systems far beyond the reaches of our own sun, we are struggling to determine guidelines as to what constitutes a planet and how many exist in our own Solar System before naming these objects to satisfy all.

There are changes that many will not be aware of – for instance Ceres, Pallas and Vesta, once classed as planets for more than 50 years, are now designated status as Asteroids under the newly established committee of experts. Pluto seems to have lost the status once enjoyed.

The International Astronomical Union or IAU has recently issued information that stands firm at present with many astronomers being in accord with the following criteria.

A planet is seen as a spherical object in orbit around the sun and of sufficient size to have cleared a free orbital pathway.

Current official recognition accepts that in our Solar System it applies to 8 planets and to 3 of dwarf planet status.

Planets – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars – the Terrestrial Planets

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune –the Gas Giant Planets

Dwarf Planets – Ceres, Pluto and Eris

Ice Dwarfs – those composed mainly of ice – Pluto and Eris are classed as Ice Dwarfs

This does not mean there will be no changes in the future but at least we can feel temporarily secure in the knowledge that there are now 11 planets in our planetary ‘family’ with some predicting that a 12^th is on the way!

Satellites – Planets are capable of maintaining satellites. The present observations conclude that although Mercury and Venus have none :

Earth has 1 satellite (our Moon), Mars has 2, Jupiter has 63, Saturn has 56, Uranus has 27 and Neptune has 13.

We will all have to learn how to keep pace with advances not only in discoveries but in the progress of astronomical science and its adopted terminology.

Perhaps it will also help us all to be aware of other terms “exoplanets” and “extrasolar planets” that are being used when referring to the 209 planets currently having been observed orbiting remote stars outside our own Solar System.

As we are identifying planets out in systems beyond ours, we also focus upon the question whether there are other previously unknown planets in our own Solar System, far out beyond Pluto or so close to the Sun that we cannot see them.
