ATTRACTIONS AND ANTIPATHIES

There is always a common thread, capable of weaving into a bond of understanding between two people of the same sign and although sometimes subtle, it will be there for the parties to build upon or to deny.

These natural affinities offer us natural attractions to people of like mind and type and provide opportunities to share similarities.

Antipathies are equally natural to us and many will agree to have had the experience of an instant dislike when meeting a stranger of whom little is known. It may be simply two people of different signs clashing because of diametrically opposed points of view, of themselves and of the universe around them. It may be our feelings only that are involved, or a mutual antipathy that is sometimes a subconscious recognition of the souls’ previous contact as enemies in past lives.

It is well acknowledged that opposites also attract and different personalities can stimulate exchanges that can be to our advantage or to personal growth. We find that natural attractions generally present opportunities to feel comfortable with others and if it is mutual, then a basis for constructive relationships and friendships.

Antipathies are there to be overcome by understanding or as a lesson of avoidance and a warning that there are unknown elements or potential dangers in an association with a fundamentally different personality. When a really strong antipathy is felt, it is best to listen to one’s intuition if the soul whispers that avoidance is the best policy.

PSYCHOLOGY AND THE STARS

Studying astro-psychology or the science of astrology applied to the personality and character of the individual helps you to discover something about your place in the greater scheme of life. It helps to generate more self confidence, encourages better understanding and relationship with others of differing temperament, and focuses your main qualities and attributes best developed to their full potential for your life satisfaction.

It becomes evident, that, for whatever reason, we tend to be naturally grouped in a mould of talents and behaviour common to others born within the same zodiacal framework and birth time. To accurately draw up an astrological chart, it is important that we relate to the true moment of birth, to the minute if possible. This is calculated by reference to astronomical calculations published in an ephemeris and is readily available to professional astrologers. For those who are happy with a rather broader interpretation, there are many quick calculating systems to use as a beginners’ guide.

The satisfaction of studying the human psyche within the astrological system is that it recognizes the extreme complexity of human nature but gives us with a simple starting point to observe why we share a similar body type with others; why our circumstances share similar points with others of the same zodiacal sign; why our latent talents can be seen from a young age; where our weaknesses in character exist; and many other features that are inherent in our overall psychological pattern or ‘recipe’.

When we have absorbed the basic studies of the zodiacal signs we then learn to see that the placement of the planets in the heavens at our birth. The planets then focus the particular influences rather than the previous generalities of the zodiacal sun sign or birth sign. These activate the difficult energy patterns or advantageous ones relative to our health, wealth, relationships, emotional fulfilment or intellectual goals.

Further, beyond the physical personality, the ancient science of astrology is complete in recognizing the attributes of the soul and the spirit of the individual that inhabits the psychological mechanism known to modern psychology.

The most potent reminder through astrology is that you, as an individual are unique and so will experience life uniquely and can offer a rare gift to the world.

SCORPIO’S INFLUENCE

Scorpio is a recognized zodiacal power of some magnitude.

If you are born under this sign, or have it Rising at your time of birth, you will feel that there is an unknown or mysterious influence that seems to pervade your life.

If you can accept this Scorpio gift somewhat as the Good Fairies bless the child in the Sleeping Princess fable, and translate its energy wisely, it will help create great success in your constructive undertakings and in your personal understanding of life. It can equally be devastatingly successful in its employment in negative actions and be capable of creating inner turmoil and drama in your personal psyche (and relationships) should your choose unwisely.

It is a matter of recognizing your inherent power that you have – as a potential, or as a tool if you already have a current channel for its energy in your life. But to remember the responsibility that is always attendant to this gift and to temper your sense of ego and power with the gentleness that you also possess, is important. Others may not have come to know you well.

Be kind to yourself, and to others.

Other factors in your chart will always add to the mix of your character traits but rarely does a Scorpio fail to possess intensity, whether it is interest in sexual expression of their emotions, ambition in their enterprises, or a capacity to research the depths of human nature, or to investigate the higher truths of the heavens.

To moderate your inner intensity is necessary for your inner peace.

Meditation helps you to realise how to best use your will and find the truth you seek.

POLARITIES IN A PERSONAL CHART

There are two major polarities for consideration in the personal horoscope – one being the Sun and Moon relationship and the other being the Sun (or Birth) Sign and the Rising Sign representing influences that must be reconciled.

POLARITIES – SUN AND MOON

The Sun sign is an indication of strong spiritual or inner goals, talents and application towards worldly as well as spiritual advancement in evolution of the soul. In the personality it represents all the positive virtues and outward expressions of magnanimity, generosity, happiness and other positive character traits related to the inner self and inner powers and enduring life motivations and attitudes.

The Moon’s work regarding the spiritual aspect, is to reflect all these virtues through the brain and personality and it is through the zodiacal placement of the Moon at birth that it functions.  But as the Sun represents the constant or inner spiritual self, the Moon is the emotional self that changes and responds to all situations and influences within the practical climate of daily living environment.

This creates an inner tension or energy pattern in need of polarization and harmonizing by the personal discipline and self culture of each individual.  To give an example –

Sun in Aries – has strong leadership qualities being dominant, assertive, confident, adventurous, self centred, courageous.

Moon in Pisces – a sensitive, self sacrificing and often poetic nature with vague moods and variable emotions of different responses and colour like an opal gemstone. For an Aries to reflect the Sun qualities in a personality with gentle and diffused emotions is obviously a challenge that requires a degree of self understanding.

Such a ‘recipe’ of a common basic polarity or duality is explicitly interpreted  by the great astrologer Alan Leo ..“ This combination is not altogether a harmonious one, the action of the sun being too strong for the lunar position, producing a discontented, restless, and often worrying nature But it tones down considerably the impulsiveness of Aries, and when the two are working harmoniously, it increases the kindliness of the nature, and gives a love of the occult, the profound and mysterious.”…..

When the Birth Sign and the Moon happen to fall in the same sign (in conjunction) the exercise in Polarity is not applicable and the factors must be interpreted differently.

POLARITIES – SUN SIGN AND RISING SIGN

The Sun sign and the Rising Signs are not always as diametrically opposed as the above example  but to identify the major known characteristics of each Sign and you have a clear understanding of the differences in your nature that must become integrated.

For example, if your Sun Sign is Taurus, stable, firm, slow and accumulative regarding material things as well as being engaged in constructive enterprises, you may have to use a deal of self control of your more aggressive emotions and attitudes that could cause errors made in haste under the influence of a Rising Sign of Aries.

It is a very constructive exercise to actually list the virtues and failings of each of the two Signs in your horoscope and it will be evident to you where and why your personal psychological conflicts exist.

Remembering that the Rising Sign represents the body, outer personality and what you outwardly show to the world on the stage of life that Shakespeare reminds us of , to quote, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players…….”   the Sun Sign indicates the true inner soul that is journeying through life with a spiritual purpose.

ASTRO-PSYCHOLOGY

Astrology approaches its understanding of the psychology of human nature through observation and interpretation of the cosmic influences and energies of the zodiac, solar system and planets upon the whole human psyche. The science is based upon the ancient system with its firm traditional basis for analysis that includes character, health factors, human relationships and circumstances as well as national and wider issues that affect our globe.

Astro-Psychology, in its study of individual human nature, begins simply with the serious consideration of the zodiacal birth sign. We learn to appraise the identified positive characteristics of ‘our sign’ and find it easy enough to accept that these virtues are inherent in us.  Not so easy, but equally necessary, is our attention to the negative traits. Although commonly shared as inherent weaknesses in us all, they are particularly evident in us and in others of the same birth sign as our own.

In evaluating these good or bad tendencies or traits, we must do so on the understanding that we personally may not have learned or wish to express these particular qualities of our birth sign. In this case, they remain as certain energies or resources to which we have easy access when and if we choose to utilize them.

It is our free will that determines our life course and pathway and allows us to travel the easier routes and highways that astrology is able to indicate, or directs us to choose a pathway off the beaten track. The decision is always ours, no matter what subtle influence prevails in the weather of the starry heavens. However, as the farmer is wise to make hay when the sun shines, there are life activities and efforts that are likely to be more successful when the planetary climate is conducive to productive outcomes. So we begin to be aware, beyond earthly weather patterns, to observe the ‘climate of the skies’.

The benefits of learning all the zodiacal signs and their faults and virtues, including our own, is to broaden our understanding and acknowledge the differences in people around us. It is a wise exercise with beneficial outcomes.

Just as the science of psychology has found certain ground rules and common factors in human nature and behavior that provide us with a sense of common ground with others, astrology as a science is complex in order to extend suggestions as to why we are as we are. This applies in all spheres of our being and in our common goal for self growth and excellence in achievement, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual.

A simple balanced approach is advised so that we don’t make the mistake of thinking that the stars rule us in a way that obliterates free will. Nor do we wish extreme self assertion so as to challenge or blame all the energies of great nature rather than trying to harness them.
